ARA is an association united around a core Marxist-Leninist political outlook and committed to a course of political action. We are an association rather than a party. “Association” describes a form of collective organisation without prematurely claiming the political role of a Party. A party is an organisation that seeks to represent or organise a class politically, develop a programme for state power, impose a relatively high level of ideological and organisational unity, and ultimately contest for political leadership of the whole nation.
ARA recognises that the communist movement in Australia is in an embryonic phase. It must develop itself before claiming to be a legitimate force. The purpose of ARA is to:
- Develop a coherent and wide-ranging political line applicable to present and future conditions
- Cultivate a disciplined cadre and organisational base to eventually form part of a true communist party worthy of the name
- Get revolutionary politics into the public consciousness through propaganda work and serving the people. Cultivate the seeds of a revolutionary mass culture
We pursue these goals through volunteer work, creating digital and print media, propaganda/agitation work, assisting like-minded groups and through promoting the education of our members.
Core principles of ARA:
Anti-imperialism
- Support anti-imperialist and national liberation struggles across the world and the struggle for Indigenous national liberation at home
- Expel all American military and intelligence assets. End all co-operation with imperialist powers.
Sovereignty
- Recognise that all political power comes out of the barrel of a gun. An independent revolutionary Australia must be vigilant against imperialist aggression and capable of defending itself.
- End all foreign ownership of the Australian economy under the principle of Self-Reliance.
- Digital sovereignty. Fight against the monopolisation of social existence in the hands of imperialist big tech companies, establish national social media alternatives.
Re-industrialisation
- Re-establish an industrial base with state control over the commanding heights of the economy.
- Build a modern socialist planned economy integrating modern technological advances in computing and information technology
Fighting for the working class
- Support revolutionary government by and for the working class
- Guarantee a minimum standard of living with socialised housing, education and healthcare.
Focus on the real enemy
- Oppose division and chauvinism based on ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality and religion. Oppose both backwards conservatism and liberal individualist globalism.
- Carry out a cultural revolution to build a new revolutionary mass culture and unite the people against imperialism.
